EU-Africa relations and human rights on the agenda of Foreign Affairs Council
The Council meeting opened in Brussels on 19 December 2019 with a discussion on current affairs. The EU foreign ministers then discussed EU-Africa relations to prepare for the upcoming ministerial meetings and the summit between the EU and the African Union in 2020.
They also looked at the promotion and protection of human rights across the world.
Josep Borrell Fontelles chaired the Foreign Affairs Council for the first time since he was appointed the new EU High Representative. He shared his ideas for the next few years over a working lunch, during which the working methods of the Foreign Affairs Council were informally discussed by the foreign ministers.
