On 18 November, EU agriculture ministers met to discuss the future of the common agricultural policy (CAP) post 2020. They exchanged views on the environmental and climate-related aspects of the CAP reform package and the regulations on CAP transitional rules.

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Jari Leppä chaired the meeting.

The environmental and climate-related aspects of the CAP were discussed based on a Presidency discussion paper.

The European Commission presented its proposals for regulations on CAP transitional rules, which it recently adopted. The aim of the proposals is to guarantee certainty and continuity in the granting of support to European farmers in 2020. Ministers held an exchange of views on the proposed rules.

In summer 2018, the Commission adopted a package of three legislative proposals on the CAP reform for 2021–2027. The proposals are a response to future challenges and serve to support the development of a sustainable and competitive agricultural sector.
