Prime Minister Antti Rinne submits the Government’s request for resignation – Finnish Government to continue on a caretaker basis
On Tuesday 3 December, Finland's Prime Minister Antti Rinne submitted his Government's request for resignation to the President of the Republic. President Sauli Niinistö approved the Prime Minister's request for resignation and requested that the Government continue on a caretaker basis. The caretaker government will continue to lead Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU, representing the views of the Council as it has done so far.
The Prime Minister of the caretaker government will attend the European Council meeting, unless a new government has been appointed by that time.
The ministers will also continue to participate in the meetings of the different configurations of the Council of the EU and in informal ministerial meetings in the same way as before. The work of public officials will continue as usual.
