Concert - The Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra

The Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO), now playing under its Chief Conductor Susanna Mälkki, is known as an orchestra dedicated to Finland's national composer Jean Sibelius. It has premiered the bulk of the master composer’s large-scale orchestral works.

In celebration of Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the programme includes the uplifting Fifth Symphony of Sibelius, a composition inspired by the surrounding nature. World premiered in Los Angeles in January 2018, the piece “Zimmermann Trio” weaves together live music, dance and visual design in a compelling way, typical of the work of the Finnish choreographer Tero Saarinen, transmitting a powerful experiential and emotional appeal.
