Genomics and Personalised Medicine in Public Health

The purpose of the event is to promote discussion between representatives of the EU Member States and experts on the application of personalised medicine in health services and the advancement of public health. Discussion will be based on the document “Towards access to at least 1 million sequenced genomes in the European Union by 2022.” The objective of this EU project is to create a secure and privacy-protected knowledge base in order to investigate multifactorial diseases and to make use of this information in health care. EU-wide cooperation is essential in this respect. The project also aims to improve the EU’s competitiveness in the rapidly developing area of personalised medicine, where the general objective is to provide predictive, preventive and participatory health care. A general declaration on the matter was signed in connection with DigitalDay in Brussels on 10 April 2018 and has now been signed by 21 European countries. The project is coordinated by the European Commission.
