EU strategic agenda for 2019–2024

The European Council adopted in June a new strategic agenda for the EU for the years 2019–2024. The strategic agenda sets out the overarching priorities guiding the work of the EU over the next five years. It focuses on four priorities:

  • protecting citizens and freedoms
  • developing a strong and vibrant economic base
  • building a climate-neutral, green, fair and social Europe
  • promoting European interests and values on the global stage.

Finland will be the first presidency to incorporate the five-year agenda into the work of the Council of the EU.
